Kata vs Karon Beach: Which One's for You?

Surf Hotel Phuket sits between two of the island's best west-coast beaches — Kata and Karon are both about five minutes on foot. Guests often ask which to head to first, so here's the honest difference.

Kata Beach — livelier, more compact

Kata is the smaller, more walkable of the two, with a tighter strip of beachfront restaurants, bars, and shops right behind the sand. It gets busier, especially toward sunset, and has a younger, more social atmosphere.

Karon Beach — longer, quieter stretch

Karon is Phuket's second-longest beach, wider and less crowded than Kata even in high season. It suits a quieter day on the sand, with the shopping and restaurant strip a bit more spread out and low-key.

Our take

Since both are an equal five-minute walk from the hotel, most guests end up doing both — Kata for the energy and food scene, Karon for a calmer swim. No need to choose just one.
